Earth

Characteristics[]

Earth is a warm, habitable planet in the Solar System. It has many landforms like mountains, and valleys. It is also the only planet known to have liquid water on it's surface. It's rotation is 23 hours and 56 minutes, making a day. Earth axis is tilted, 23.5 degrees, making the seasons; Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn (Fall).

Moon[]

Earth's Moon (Latin: Luna) has a diameter of 3475 km. Its rotation period is 27.5 days, almost a month. It's orbit period is 27.5 days, making one side face Earth constantly. The origin of the moon is not fully known. A modern theory is that a protoplanet about the size of Mars, called Theia (a hypothetical planet), struck Earth 4.6 billion years ago. It's collision would have to be so powerful, to make a ring orbiting Earth. It is thought that after the formation of the ring, three small moons would have orbited Earth, eventually assembling to create the Moon. Two billion years afterward, the hypothetically collided Earth has liquid water.
